Hi Bob,
Here are my thoughts on Batman #692:
As you pointed out, the story is very disjointed. First half of the book didn't really made sense to me, particularly the part about the brainwashed citizens.
I also don't understand why Dick would want to consult Selina about all this, especially when we know that the new Black Mask is not the one that Selina killed years ago. I just don't see the relevance and the connection.
A friend of mine suggested to me that I re-read Battle of the Cowl before reading Batman #692. I did and I still don't get it.
I personally feel that the whole book is put together as a sort of a build up to the last few panels of the comic: The return of the Reaper. We know that Joe Chill was the original Reaper back in the Year Two books but what does Mario Falcone have to do with all this? Perhaps Tony Daniel will reveal that to us in the next few issues.
In terms of story, it could have been much better. Come on, this is a Batman comic and for me, the writing has to be top notch. I do love Tony's artwork but i feel that he could have collaborated with an experienced Batman writer on this particular story that he is trying to tell.
Oh well! All we Batman fans can do now is hope, hope and hope that the story gets better from here. (Sigh!)
