GOTHAM KNIGHTS ONLINE PODCAST Q&A THREAD

OK, we've mentioned a couple of times about doing a Q&A section on the Podcast so this is the thread to do it in...

If you have any questions you'd like ask, or maybe a topic you'd like us to cover then post them here.

No questions, anyone? Really?

So, as you may know I'm pretty new to GKO. I've also downloaded all the podcasts and am currently listening to all of them in order. Mainly 'cause I've just recently (within the past 2 years) been reading all the more popular Batman novels: The Long Halloween, The Return of the Dark Knight, Hush not to mention a lot of Batman and DC reference books I've threw myself into. Not to say I'm new to Batman or anything DC. Just about as far as I can remember I've loved Batman. Probably since I was 5. Batman Returns got me into Batman as a kid. Soon after the Animated Series pretty much took over my whole day after I got home from school. Watch the episode and then go outside and pretend I'm Batman all day lol. I never was really exposed to the comics or any other Batman material aside from the movies and the animated series. I lived in a really small town and never had any money either. But I've always sort of known what was going on in the comic world but never really knew, ya know?. So that's why I'm listening to all the podcasts in order 'cause I'm trying to catch up. "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?" was what I was reading right before I stumbled across this site (which was not long ago). Also I really love how you guys are very knowledgeable about all the new and old Batman stories. It's all pretty geeky and I don't think any of us would argue on that one but it's a very fun thing to have as a hobby and I'm glad to have guys like you inform me of what I don't know. I'm trying to catch up though. I'm starting from Batman R.I.P. and working my way up through that whole saga.

Anyway... I think I had about 3 digressions in all that but I'm up to podcast #10 and I'm wondering what happened to Howard in the podcasts? Not to say that Cory doesn't fit in or anything. He seems to know a great deal about Batman as well but Howard was really nice to listen to. I enjoyed his thoughts and comments quite a bit. Just curious.

Can't wait to dig deeper into all this though. Thanks for doing what you do guys. Also all the interviews that you guys do are my favorite. I love all the insights from everyone in the industry. Really fascinating.

Hey Garrey,

I'm not sure if Bob has anything new, but here's what I know as far as Howard; we took a break in doing the podcasts in June, as Bob got a new job and thought he'd have to quit doing the site. That's when Howard and I left. Then, shortly thereafter, Cory found the site and thought it was a shame that it had slowed down considerably. He asked Bob to help out, and Bob agreed and essentially Cory took over most all of the site work. A few months later I just decided to check the site to see what was going on, and found Cory working on it. I asked him if he'd be willing to do the podcast for the site, 'cause I'd been itching to record again. Cory wanted to as well, we asked Bob if he'd come back, and it was all history from there.

As far as Howard, Bob and I have both tried to email him a few times since and he hasn't responded to anything. As far as we know, he's still a karate instructor in Brooklyn, but that's about all we know right now. Since you reminded me, I'll try and send him an email - It'd be cool if we could get him to come in for the 30th or some other milestone episode!

Hopefully, I'll have something new to report about Howard soon, and we'll mention it on the 'cast!

This may have been answered in a previous thread but I haven't came across it. This is more directed at Bob I guess. But I'm sure Gary and Cory probably know... but the music in the intro and outro of the podcasts are frickin' sweet. What is that from? It sounds very familiar but I can't really pin point what it's from. I love the sound of it though. I remember listening to the first podcast and hearing that and it gave me chills. Like Bob, I really enjoy listening to scores of super hero type movies. I have Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard's score of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight which are both very very good. I have a few other scores too. I don't think I enjoy them quite as much as Bob but I do like them. But yeah... just wondering what the music is from. Thanks

Ah another film music fan - we're around somewhere lol

I've just found the soundtrack to Batman: Arkham Asylum which I can't wait to start listening to.

The title track music we use on the Podcast is from the "Gotham Knight" soundtrack by Christpher Drake - I was toying with the idea of changing by I'm not sure tyet.

Interesting Bob...care to say what you're considering as the new theme?

It might be important to note, by the way, that as our podcast and site gets bigger we won't be allowed to use copyrighted music as our theme music, at least, not without permission. But I'm sure you know that, sir.

Oh, sweet! Good thing, I didn't send it yet. Does "The Great Lukeski" have any other Batman songs?

Ha! That's both creepy and awesome. I have to say I like the current one the best but as Gary mentioned as the site grows in popularity there could be some copyright issues there.

Yeah - he mentioned he released a 2 CD album this weekend. Its a lot of fanboy stuff and this is the only Natman related one. Do you think this will work well on the podcast?

I'm sure it would work fine but I personally prefer the current theme.

I think it'd work awesomely Bob! It's great for the lighter, more fun tone we're trying to give the podcast, yet fits with Batman. And if you can, maybe we should ask if we could get an instrumental track of his song, that we could play in the background and loop while we talk. Most of the better podcasts I listen to do that, it really gives it that extra little bit.

I'd also love to play some audio call in messages - if you've got skype send up a message to my skype account - bobby.tiiley and we'll also play that. Again tell us what you think about the show or something in the Batman Universe that's gotten you excited.

I have a question!

I have been RSS'ing GKO feed for.. a year I believe, and never clicked on any "podcasts" things. What ARE they??

Podcasts are basically online radio programs. It varies a bit depending on who's doing them, but ours are generally one to two hour long updates on the world of Batman, including news, discussions, and reviews. You can download them individually, or use software such as iTunes or other "podcatchers" to download them automatically as the new episodes are posted, which for us is currently every fortnight (or every other week).

I've got them all on my ipod and love to listen to them when I walk the dog or have to do some shopping. I got some strange looks in CVS last night when I was laughing outloud at some funny comments.
