| There's been a lot of buzz today for Kevin Smith's return to Batman with the story titled Widening Gyre...
I really hope it's better than Cachophony... I love Kevin Smith's work but I wasn't a big fan of that run...

| I liked Cacaphony. Different, but so is Kevin Smith. Given, it wasn't even close to his Green Arrow or Daredevil days, but those were monthlies.
Some friends of mine saw him live on stage, and he talked about writing Batman. He said he had thrown away several rough drafts and didn't think it was good until he wrote it with the help of marijuana........that may explain the fall-off.
That said, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

| I've really enjoyed the run so far. Issue #3 wasn't the best, it read like an episode of Love Island but the new guy and some of the flashbacks have been really great to read.
Fingers crossed it carries on like it has.

| So far I'm up to issue five and I have to say that I'm loving this series and I think it's not getting the attention it desrves. There are alot of balls in the air with this one bruce's relationship with silver, many flashbacks, and a brand new hero named baphomet, who I'm not completly sure is a hero. As with cacophony im sure kevin smith is saving the best for last. I really want to know what will happen with baphomet. And has anyone seen #4's cover!? It has the joker standing on top of batman holdind a sword and an ace of spades with a single word balloon that says "... Is THIS your card". One of my favorite batman covers ever!! I really want to know what you think of the series and about what's going on. | |

| I still haven't gotten to catching up on this one, and I hate it - 'cause it was awesome. I'm kinda amped up to read the rest of it!

| How long was it delayed, Bob? I just figured I missed some and had to catch up, didn't realize there were delays.

| Oh wow! Weren't they doing something like 12 issues split into two release periods? And wasn't the first 6 issues supposed to be finished in January?

-Gary Yeah i think you're right. But this was bound to happen as Kevin Smith is known for being extremly slow, when it comes to his comics work. As for the content, I find the writing interesting but the art to be lacking.

| Yeah, that's true. I feel like he has too much on his plate as a film writer/director to focus on a 12 issue comic series. Plus he's recently started smoking marijuana, so maybe that has something to do with it lol.
I agree about the art somewhat. I think it's because he used Walt Flannagan, who is a childhood friend, rather than an established artist.

| What a load of crap, Hey Kevin, you are writing Batman not Mallrats. Bruce wets his pants in one of the best comic book moments ever?, He has a total brain fart and lets a villian have access to the Batcave and his Identity? DD, are you fucking kidding me? Wher the hell are the editors that let this crap go through. The third person to ever right Silver St. Cloud, and he totally turns her into a ditz. What is DC thinking with this crap, I was enjoying this book, but the last issue was a total pile of garbage. Smith has to put the bong down before he ever writes another Batman comic, maybe we will get lucky and this will turn out like his last Daredevil work that was left unfinished and totally forgotten, Bring Englehardt back to correct the damage Smith did to the Second best female character in the bat books. | |

| I agree with everything you just said, BillyK. I don't think I've ever seen a worse comic book (depicting a known and loved character)! Batman wetting himself is a slap in the face of the Batman mythos. Kevin Smith isn't being funny, and if he thinks any self-respecting Batman fan will continue reading this series, he is wrong.
I've loved his work for years (even with the delays), but this just ruined me on him. He is never going to do another monthly, and I hope DC says "Adios" to this pot-smoking fool's mini/maxi-series. I could deal with the bad art because the story was looking good, but why would I waste my money now that the story has gone this far downhill? I'm sure that he simply forgot where he was going with the story since it's been so long since he wrote the last issue.......DC probably put it out just because it was so delayed, thinking "what else can we do?"
DC should just cancel this series right where it is and let it be a milestone and warning to anyone reading or considering reading any future Kevin Smith works. Good luck with Green Hornet Mr. Smith, but stay out of the DC Universe.

| a total disappointement and a shameful interpretation of the character of batman. Where the hell are the editors when you need them?
I did not believe I would say this: this series is even worse than all star batman.
