| They just announced that the Superman reboot, written by David Goyer and produced by Chris Nolan, will be coming out in Imax in December of 2012! I'm really excited about this. Kinda disappointed that it's more than 2 years away, but I guess it'll take a while to get a script together and all that. But still, I'm excited! This bit of news should hold me over until the DCUO release date is announced!
What do you all think?

| They're saying "Man of Steel is gonna be in 3-D...not sure how I feel about that.

| Could be good with the magical touch of Nolan. I did not like Superman Returns one bit. This may interest me though. | |

| I hear ya. I liked Superman Returns for what it was, but I'm a true fanboy - I love everything that comes out. There hasn't been one superhero movie I've seen that I haven't liked. I can see its flaws, but I think if they could have done a sequel it could have been great. Bryan Singer said Returns was his homage/conclusion to the Donner films, an ultimate fanboy flick, and the sequel would have been the whole "Wrath of Khan" bad-a kick butt sequel. And I see why people didn't like him, but I really liked Brandon Routh as Superman and Kevin Spacey as Luthor.
However, I am super excited for a Superman movie written by Goyer with Geoff Johns and Chris Nolan having their hands in it!

| Although I love Nolan, and what he's done with the Batman movie franchise.....I am concerned that Superman may have possibly been passed by in our modern culture. He is the ultimate good guy.....not dark & intimidating as our beloved Dark Knight is. Although it will most likely do much better than Superman Returns, it may fall well short of any of the Batman numbers. | |

| Yeah, I hear you. A big part of the problem is that Superman is seen as lame and predictable by today's standards, whereas Batman is edgy and fits in with the fast-paced emo modern crowd. But Superman is not only important because he's a total altruist and the first/greatest hero out there, but he's the shining example to all of the other heroes. I was just reading an old issue of Justice League today from the "Funeral of a Friend" storyline, after the death of Superman. Batman comes to meet the grieving JLA, and the first thing out of his mouth is that "Of all the men I've known, super or otherwise, he was the one I respected the most". And just before that, Flash thought to himself "Wow. Superman's death is big enough to affect the ENTIRE UNIVERSE. Wow..." He's more than just a boyscout, he's a great leader and example for heroes and citizens alike. That's what a lot of people don't get these days...and if they make Superman dark and brooding like Batman, it'll kill it.

| Give Superman back to Tim Burton that's all I want to say...
Only joking - As long as Superman is put up against a real villain - Braniac, Bizarro or even bring back Zod I don't mind. No one wants to see Superman go up against Lex Luthor anymore in the movies - give him a proper challenge.

| Although I think having Lex as the mastermind behind the villains (Think Superman II without the bumbling idiot side of Luthor or a good portion of Smallville).

| I agree the Lex Luther (using Kryptonite) storyline is about as "played out" as any in history of comic books......An enemy (like the ones mentioned above) would hopefully be great to attract moviegoers and new fans! I personally would love to see more of a sci-fi type of movie with Darkseid as the villain.
I agree that Superman is the foremost and most important comic book Hero ever created! He is that shining example that all the other heros draw off of and aspire to be.....though Bizarro would add humor to a story like no other could.....you know, saying "Constipation" in a scene instead of $&!#! lol.

| Hahaha Bizarro would be awesome. I'd like to see a good Brainiac story, and although it was done with Superman II I think Zod would be a good foe. Rumor is that Smallville will have Darkseid next season, they've already mentioned Apokolips. Man, now I just want Smallville to continue on to be a Superman movie lol. | |

| Darkseid would be awesome - now I can see Nolan going for him because of the darker element. | |

| At the same time though, I don't know how Nolan's going to handle it because with Batman he's steered clear of the sci-fi elements. That's why I thought it was weird when they brought Nolan on board.

| I think Nolan steered clear of Sci-Fi elements in the Bat-movies because Batman isn't really a Sci-Fi hero.....The Joker, Two-Face, & Scarecrow....among his other Rogues....keep him busy without it. Superman; however, can and (I think) should incorporate Sci-Fi aspects onto the big screen. With today's cinema technology (just look at Avatar!), there is pretty much nothing they cannot do! Darkseid, Brainiac (Geoff John's recent version especially), Bizarro, or even Gen. Zod could all be draw-dropping in effect....and hopefully revenue! | |

| That's true, I never thought of it that way. I guess I just kinda assumed he'd make gritty realism out of all his characters, whether they were realistic or not. Like the way Tim Burton's Superman wasn't going to have that "faggy" Superman costume/cape, and he couldn't fly.
I'm getting worried though, because I cant' stop thinking about how bad Darkseid would be if they do him in Smallville next season. I hope they don't... but in the movie, that's a different story. To be honest, I think Brainiac would be the best for the movie though, if not Metallo or something, because Darkseid is a little too sci-fi heavy I think to just throw in the first movie.

| True, most casual watchers would have no clue about who he is, or the back-story of the New Gods. If they do introduce him in Smallville, I hope it's just a large "shadowy" figure with glowing red eyes.....that way there is no embarrassing sub-par special effects (though I don't wish to sell the show short, they do have good special effects mostly).
Brainiac, Bizarro, & Zod all have more easily discernable and simple goals/background stories that can be easily assimulated into the minds of non-comic book junkies.

| I'd love to see a live action darksied in the new superman movie. The third batman movie will be coming out sooner though and the buzz around who the new villan will be will overshadow superman completely. | |

| That's true, once news starts coming out about Batman 3 nobody will care about any other superhero for a while. Though, I'm personally more excited for Superman news, since it's a totally new project based around one of my favorite characters. Batman 3 is going to be awesome, we know that much; but Superman we know next to nothing about.

The Death of Superman on screen, fighting Doomsday - coming back. That would be a mega movie!

| Really, that's what I think Superman Returns SHOULD have been. I saw a mock-up once, after Superman Returns, with Routh as Eradicator and half of Cyborg Superman/Henshaw, Shaq as Steel (from that movie he did) with an "S" on his chest, and some kid actor with essentially the Superman Returns costume and a Leather Jacket on.
But really, if they did a live action adaptation of the death of Superman/Funeral for a Friend and the Reign of the Supermen, with Superman returning at the very end like he did in the comic, that would be so EPIC!
But, to be honest, I don't see the studios doing that (at least for the first movie). They'd probably want to introduce this Superman first, rather than starting with a second movie which the "real" superman is barely in.
But either way, now I really want a "Death of Superman" movie!
